Notes on Building Trust and Credibility on Professional Websites

Technical:

  1. Please don’t keep your viewers guessing: provide clear menu and clean site structure.
  2. Use an SSL Certificate: you don’t want the browsers to display a warning to your guests!
  3. Optimise your website for speed: users tend not to trust slow websites (Bartuskova, Krejcar, 2025).

Social:

  1. Display Google, Trustpilot, or Facebook reviews.
  2. Embed logos of companies you’ve worked with, press mentions and awards.
  3. Link to social media presence.

Legal:

Depending on your location, the main data protection regulations are the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in the EU and CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act).

  1. Display a Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, and Refund Policy (if appropriate).
  2. Clearly state how you collect, store, and use customer data in your Privacy Policy.
  3. Provide opt-in/opt-out options for cookies and data collection.

Bonus:

  1. Regularly check for broken links and remove outdated content.
